Disposal Information for Used Batteries
This information applies to end‑users who use batteries or products containing integrated batteries and do not intend to re‑sell these products in the form supplied to them:
Free Return of Used Batteries
Batteries must not be disposed of via household waste. By law, you are obliged to return used batteries so they can be properly recycled. You may hand in used batteries at a local municipal collection point or at local retailers. As a supplier of batteries, we are also obliged to take back used batteries. However, our return obligation is limited to batteries of the types that we currently offer or have previously offered in our range. You may either return used batteries of the above‑mentioned types to us by post at your own postage cost or hand them in free of charge directly at our shipping warehouse at the address listed in our imprint.
Meaning of Battery Symbols
Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed‑out waste bin (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be placed in household waste. If batteries contain more than 0.0005 mass‑percent mercury, more than 0.002 mass‑percent cadmium, or more than 0.004 mass‑percent lead, the chemical symbol for the relevant substance appears under the waste‑bin symbol: “Cd” for cadmium, “Pb” for lead, and “Hg” for mercury.
Vehicle Batteries
When selling vehicle batteries (i.e., batteries designed to power the starter motor, lighting, or ignition systems of vehicles), the following special rules apply:
Under §10 BattG (German Battery Act), the seller is obliged to charge the end‑user a deposit of 7.50 euros (incl. VAT) per vehicle battery, provided the customer does not return an old vehicle battery at the time of purchase. At the time of purchasing a new vehicle battery, the customer receives a deposit voucher. The deposit will be refunded when the old vehicle battery is returned to the seller.
Due to the hazardous‑goods regulations, it is not permitted to ship the old vehicle battery back to the seller. As an alternative, the customer can return the old vehicle battery to a take‑back point set up by the local public waste‑management authority.
If the old vehicle battery is not returned to the seller charging the deposit, the authorised collection point that accepts the battery is obliged, at the customer’s request, to confirm the return in writing or electronically without deposit refund. The customer will then receive the deposit from the seller, provided the customer submits written or electronic proof of return under §10 Abs. 1 S. 4 BattG that is not older than two weeks at the time of submission.
